In an interview with The Hill, Senator Tom Harkin responded to whether or not he would accept the Vice-President spot if asked by Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton. This is what he had to say:

Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) “No, I’d have Jon Stewart stand in for me. Jon Stewart. That’s my guy.”

Tom, being a senior member of the Democratic party, and one of the most respected politicians in America, I can understand your call for backing Obama. I appreciate what you are trying to do; the monumental effort to bring our party together. However, being a diehard Hillary fan, I can tell you without a doubt, your efforts will be fruitless without Hillary on that ticket. I have been reading blogs all over the net with people swearing they will not vote for Obama without Hillary; talk of leaving the party to become an independent, and write-ins in the November election, all of which I, a life-long Democrate, am also considering. My greatest fear is Obama, like Jimmy Carter, will be chewed up and spit out by the political regime, and in 4 years, the Republican party will once again, rule. And we all know, they only rule for the rich. Our country can no longer function this way. So, I am encouraging you to encourage Obama to ask Hillary to be his running mate. She will have the know-how to keep this country for the people, by the people. Please, help us.
