Harkin Tours Warren County Damage

JUNE 24TH, 2007 | Harkin for Senate

June 24, 2007—It’s now confirmed that two tornados hit central Iowa Friday afternoon. Now, residents of two metro communities will spend the following days cleaning up. Senator Tom Harkin toured the damage in Warren County Saturday.

He started in his home town of Cumming, where up to 100 mph winds splintered trees and destroyed several buildings. One of the damaged homes belongs to his cousin.

Harkin says he felt sick after hearing about the storms, “All I can say is thank God no one got hurt. No real injuries. No one got killed. As one of my cousins said, ‘Irish eyes are smiling right now.’”

The National Weather Service rated the tornado in Cumming an EF1. The Norwalk tornado was rated an EF2, and produced winds of up to 125 mph.
