Tom Harkin knows education is the key to success. That’s why he’s worked to increase America’s investment in education at every level – from pre-school to college.

As chairman of the Senate committee that funds education, Tom Harkin has secured $87 million to modernize and repair Iowa’s schools. That investment is helping provide Iowa’s school children with safer classrooms equipped with the best education technology. Tom Harkin also supported President Bush’s bipartisan ‘Leave No Child Behind Act’ to increase accountability and raise standards for every school.

Tom Harkin also knows that a college education is the key to higher paying jobs. He is working to invest in Iowa’s teachers by improving training and has proposed a plan to forgive up to $17,500 of student loans for Iowans who accept the challenge of teaching or nursing. The Harkin College Affordability plan is a common sense solution that invests in Iowa’s students, Iowa’s economy, and Iowa’s future.

Tom Harkin believes that a stronger, brighter future for Iowa means investing in education – from Head Start to college. That’s why he works hard for a quality education for every Iowan.
