Sen. Tom Harkin announced Friday that the Iowa Department of Transportation received $226,308 to work on approaches for the new U.S. Highway 34 bridge, including work on the U.S. 34 and Interstate 29 interchange in Mills County.

“Providing investments in our infrastructure will help improve our transportation system and give a welcome boost to Iowa’s economy,” Harkin said. The funds have been provided through a combination of congressionally directed funds and state DOT support over many years to make this project possible.

“These essential funds will improve transportation in southwest Iowa and hopefully will help attract companies to the area,” Harkin added.

Harkin has been a long time supporter of this project and is a senior member of the panel that funds transportation initiatives.
