HARKIN ANNOUNCES FUNDS FOR IOWA HOUSING
12/14/2005
WASHINGTON, D.C.
Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced that the Eastern Iowa
Regional Housing Authority received $61,083 and the Des Moines
Municipal Housing Authority received $27,953 from the U.S. Department
of Housing and Urban Development (HUD.)
“It is essential
that
decent affordable housing become available for all Iowans with low and
modest incomes,” said Harkin. “This assistance will help low income
persons and their families take on this problem and work to gain the
skills to live self sufficiently. I have always believed that quality
and affordable housing is the cornerstone of the American dream.”
The organizations
will
use these funds to hire a program coordinator to link participating
families to the support services they need to become self-sufficient.
Harkin is a senior Democrat on the Senate Appropriations Committee that
funds HUD.
