HARKIN ANNOUNCES OVER $1.2 MILLION FOR IOWA AIRPORTS

2/27/2006

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced over $1.2 million in federal grants for improvements to seven Iowa airports. These grants, released by the U.S. Department of Transportation, allow for important structural and safety upgrades at facilities statewide.

“I am pleased that Iowa airports will receive these essential investments, many for important infrastructure improvements,” said Harkin. “Maintaining a quality airport is important to the economic health of a community, as many businesses look for a nearby airport when deciding to come into a community or expand existing facilities.”

The grant awards are as follows:

Centerville: $85,500 to install weather reporting equipment

Clarinda: $36,655 to construct a snow removal equipment building for Schenck Field

Hampton: $351,500 to acquire snow removal equipment and construct a snow removal equipment building

Mount Pleasant: $218,500 to improve the access road

Muscatine: $380,475 to acquire land

Pella: $39,900 to conduct an airport master plan study

Webster: $134,626 to rehabilitate an apron, an area for planes to land, and $85,500 to acquire snow removal equipment
