3/8/2006 HARKIN ANNOUNCES FIREFIGHTER ASSISTANCE FOR TWO IOWA COMMUNITIES WASHINGTON, D.C. –As part of his continued effort to support Iowa’s first responders, Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) announced today that the LAFS for Life program in Des Moines received $69,435 and the Iowa Fireman’s Association in Vinton received $59,000 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program for fire prevention. 2/28/2006 HARKIN ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR TRANSIT PROJECTS IN IOWA WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) announced today that the Iowa Department of Transportation will receive over $1.5 million for the Job Access and Reverse Commute (JARC) program. 8/29/2005 HARKIN ANNOUNCES $4.9 MILLION IN BIOTERRORISM FUNDS FOR IOWA HOSPITALS WASHINGTON, D.C. – As part of his ongoing support for Iowa’s bioterrorism efforts, Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) announced today that the Iowa Department of Public Health will receive more than $4.9 million from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to help Iowa hospitals prepare for and respond to bioterrorism and other public health emergencies. Harkin helped secure this funding as the ranking Democrat on the Senate panel that funds health initiatives.
