State gets federal funding for winter storm help

JUNE 26TH, 2007 | Harkin for Senate

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP)—Senator Tom Harkin says the Iowa Department of Transportation is getting millions of dollars to help pay for relief efforts from winter storms earlier this year.

Harkin says the department received over two-point-four million dollars to reimburse costs associated with providing emergency assistance during road closures.

An ice storm hit eastern Iowa in late February, then a blizzard followed in western Iowa in early March.

Funds come from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
